Here are the top football events in 2022

Brazilian Football Icon Pele Passes away

It is the most recent world football event on the list. Pele passed away, on Thursday, after a long battle with cancer, kidney, and heart problems, his agent Joe Fraga confirmed the tragic news.

The legendary footballer had undergone treatment for colon cancer since 2021. Last month, he was hospitalized with multiple ailments.

Pelé’s health deteriorated as he was diagnosed with anasarca (general swelling), edemigemic syndrome (general edema), and a “decompensated heart failure.”

The news death of the legendary football player and three-time world cup winner sparked social media and sent all football lovers in grief.

FIFA World Cup, Argentina World Champions, Messi Rules

There is no doubt that the FIFA World Cup came at the top of all football events in 2022. It was the first time for the event to take place in Winter and in an Arab country.

The latest edition of the FIFA World Cup in Qatar could the final for a number of stars such as Messi, Cristiano Ronaldo, Luka Modric, and Lewandowski. 

However, the whole world supported Argentina and Messi to hold the golden cup. The majority of football lovers hoped and prayed for Messi to catch the final milestone he failed to achieve in the past few years.

Messi succeeded in capturing his first Copa America title last year, the title that Maradona failed to get to the country.

Messi dreamed of catching the golden cup to finalize the achievements any football player could dream to have.

The icon now achieved six titles with Argentia including Youth World Championship, and the gold Olympic medal. 

Morocco Shine

Morocco did a miracle that nobody expected to see in 2022. Morocco did exceptionally performance in the latest tournament. 

They became the first Arab and African team to advance to the FIFA World Cup semi-final. It managed to beat Spain, Portugal, and Belgium. 

Arab & African Nations Impressive FIFA World Cup Appearances 

The latest FIFA World Cup edition saw an impressive appearance for the Arab and African teams. 

KSA succeeded in defeating Argentina in the first round of Group C. Cameron defeated Brazil in the final round of Group G, Tunisia defeated France in the final round of Group D, and Morocco defeated Belgium in the second round of Group F. 

Karim Benzema Wins Ballon d'Or

Benzema won his first Ballon d'Or in 2022 after his breathtaking performance with Real Madrid and became the first French player to catch the prize since Zinedine Zidane in 1998.

Benzema was pulled out of France's World Cup squad which created escalations between Real Madrid and France's coach Didier Deschamps.

Therefore, Benzema has announced his retirement from international football.

“I made the effort and mistakes it took to be where I am today and I’m proud of it!” Benzema wrote on Twitter. “I wrote my story and ours is ending."

AC Milan Win 1st Serie A Title in 11 Years

In 2022, finally, AC Milan satisfied their fans and captured their Serie A title in 11 years. One of the rising stars of the team was Zlatan Ibrahimovic.

Sweden legend has extended his stay at AC Milan for another season.

Senegal Capture 1st Title 

In 2022, Senegal succeeded in capturing their first Africa Cup of Nations after defeating Egypt by penalties (4-2). 

Egypt missed two penalties by Defender Mohamed Abdelmonem and Mohanad Lasheen.

On the other hand, Senegal's Bouna Sarr missed one penalty.
