A few moments ago, New Japan Pro Wrestling concluded the activities of its top annual event, Wrestle Kingdom 17, on a historical night, and with the biggest in-venue attendance since the pandemic.  

Wrestle Kingdom 17 Highlights

The heavy card of the event saw the coronation of new champions, the return of Kenny Omega for the first time in four years, and the tribute to the godfather of the promotion Antonio Inoki.

Karl Anderson becomes the first one under a WWE contract in recent times to participate in the NJPW event.

Moreover, the event hosted for the first time a match for the IWGP World Television title and IWGP Women's title.

The top highlights of the event are:

Kenny Omega Wins IWGP US Heavyweight Title 

AEW Superstar and the top foreign wrestler in the history of the Japanese promotion Kenny Omega made a huge return to NJPW. 

It was Omega's first match in the Japanese promotion in more than four years and won his first IWGP title in long years.

He defeated his latest rivalry Will Ospreay in an impressive classic contest that lasted for more than 30 minutes.

Okada Becomes New IWGP World Heavyweight Champion

Okada defeated Jay White in the second main event of Wrestle Kingdom 17 to capture the IWGP World Heavyweight title.

Okada, previously, won the title in Wrestle Kingdom 16 after beating Shingo Takagi to hold the title. 

After that, he lost the title to Jay White in NJPW Dominion before he returned and won G1 Climax 32 to capture a title shot against White in Wrestle Kingdom 17.

FTR Lost Final Tag Team Titles

Top world tag team wrestling, FTR, lost their final tag team titles to Bishamon. Last week, FTR lost their AAA titles and lost their ROH World Tag Team titles in early December.

After losing the titles, a lot of speculations are revolving around the future of the tag team amid the near end of their AEW contracts.

Keiji Moto Final NJPW Appearance 

The legendary Keiji Moto had his final NJPW appearance in a six-man tag team match. Moto combined forces with the Ace Hiroshi Tanahashi and the future of the brand Shota Umino who had the pin for the team's win.

WWE's Sasha Banks Makes NJPW Debut under Mercedes Monè Name

Former WWE Superstar Sasha Banks made her NJPW/Stardome debut under the name of Mercedes Monè. She came face to face with the IWGP Women's Champion Kairi.

Zack Sabre Jr. Becomes 1st IWGP World Television Champion

 Zack Sabre Jr. defeated Ren Narita by submission in the tournament final for the inaugural NJPW World Television Championship.

Great-O-Khan, Shingo Takagi, Sho, Toru Yano Advanced to KOPW Final 

Great-O-Khan, Shingo Takagi, Sho, and Toru Yano were the last four survivors in the New Japan Ranbo to participate in a 4-way match for KOPW.

Exhibition Match: Ryohei Oiwa vs. Boltin Oleg ended in a time-limit draw 

New Japan Ranbo for Naming Challenger for Provisional KOPW 2023 Trophy: Great-O-Khan, Shingo Takagi, Sho, and Toru Yano advanced to a 4-way match for KOPW.

Six-Man Tag Team Match (Antonio Inoki Memorial Match): Yuji Nagata, Satoshi Kojima & Togi Makabe defeated Tatsumi Fujinami, Minoru Suzuki &Tiger Mask.

IWGP Junior Tag Team Titles: Catch 2/2 (c) (with Gideon Grey) defeated LiYoh
