On Friday, the opening ceremony of the 2024 Paris Summer Olympics took place with a wide participation of several singers and performers.
The concert opened with a high-kitsch, riverside spectacle. Dancers gathered on bridges and the Olympic sign lit up the Eiffel Tower.
Celine Dion
The popular, and iconic Celine Dion closed the ceremony with a powerful performance of Edith Piaf’s famous song “Hymne á l’amour” under the rain at the Eiffel Tower after the Olympic Games were officially opened and the Olympic fire was lit in the Tuileries Garden.
Dion's performance was her first live performance since she announced her stiff person syndrome diagnosis in December 2022.
Lady Gaga
The US singer Lady Gaga was the first star and singer who appeared in the evening. She appeared from a giant golden staircase on the edge of the Seine surrounded by pink pompoms and giant pink feather fans.
She performed France’s famous Mon Truc en plumes by Zizi Jeanmaire.
The singer delivered her performance along the Seine, where the opening ceremony is being held for the first time.

Aya Nakamura
The most-listened singer to French-speaking people Aya Nakamura, appeared at the Pont des Arts to perform with France’s Republican Guard, who lined up on military drums.
Nakamura sang parts of songs by the legendary French crooner Charles Aznavour, and her own hits, Pookie and Djadja.
Nakamura’s presence was considered a win for the singer who suffered from racial abuse early this year.
Gojira & Marina Viotti
French's famous Death Metal band Gojira performed at the show in a sketch called "Freedom" which talked about France after the French Revolution. They teamed up with Marina Viotti.
Axelle Saint-Cirel
French mezzo-soprano from Guadeloupe Axelle Saint-Cirel impressed the fans with singing the French national anthem, La Marseillaise, draped in the tricolour flag on the glass roof of the Grand Palais.
Sofian Pamart & Juliette Armanet
This segment talked about the challenges that face the humanity. The singer and the pianist performed John Lennon and Yoko Ono’s timeless classic, Imagine in the heart of the river.
French DJ-producer Barbara Butch
French DJ producer Barbara Butch appeared, introducing several musical hits during the fashion show that represented France's fashion and diversity.
