Get to Know 44th CIFF Winners

A few moments ago, the 44th edition of the Cairo International Film Festival (CIFF) activities concluded. The closing ceremony was headlined by the President of the festival veteran actor Hussein Fahmy. The ceremony witnessed announcing the winners of the festival’s different competitions, including special mentions.

Fahmy delivered a short speech by the beginning of the ceremony as he introduced two scenes of the latest project adapted by the CIFF which is restoring classic Egyptian films.

Two films were introduced during this edition which are: “A Song on the Passage,” and “The Diary of a Deputy in the Countryside.”

In addition, CIFF President wished to make the festival among the top three of the world film festivals, and he thanked all Egyptian institutions who contributed in the festival, mentioning, Minister of Culture Dr. Nevine Al Kilani.

He also thanked the volunteers and the working teams of the CIFF for their efforts during the event.

 The Egyptian 19B won the International Federation of Film Critics Award, in addition, it captured the Best Arabic Film Award in the festival.

Youssef Cherif Rizkallah Award went to Riverbed

Regarding the Cinema of Tomorrow International Competition Awards, “One F**king Wish” had a special mention, while the Egyptian film “My Girlfriend” won the Jury’s special award.

Youssef Chahine Award for Best Short Film went to Rosemary A.D. (After Dad).

Next International Critics’ Week Competition Awards, Shadi Abdel Salam Award for Best Film was captured by Dmytro Sukholytkyy-Sobchuk for the “Pamfir” film.

Fathy Farag Award for Best Artistic Contribution went to Saim Sadiq for “Joyland.”

Finally, “Victim” had a special mention by the jury.

After that comes The Horizons of New Arab Cinema Competition Awards, Saad Eldin Wahba Award for Best Arabic Film was taken by Carlos Chahine for his “Mother Valley”

Salah Abu Seif Award for Best Artistic Contribution went to “Riverbed.”

Best Non-Fiction film Award went to “Far from the Nile,” and Best Acting Performance Award was taken by Carol Aboud for “Riverbed.”

There were two special mentions for “Houria,” and “I Am Coming Home.”

Moving to the International Competition Awards, The Golden Pyramid Award for Best Film went to “Alam,” while the Silver Pyramid went to “Love According to Dalva.”

The Bronze Pyramid Award for Best First or Second Work was taken by Damian Kocur for “Bread and Salt.”

Naguib Mahfouz Award for Best Screenplay was captured by Kosuke Mukai For “A Man.”

Regarding the Best Actor Award, it was given to two names: Maher Al Kheir for his role in “The Dam,” and Mahmoud Bakry for his role in “Alam.” 

While Best Actress award was given to Zelda Samson for her role in “Love According to Dalva.”

Finally, Henry Barakat Award for Best Artistic Contribution went to Mostafa Al Kashef for “19B.”
