German federal police recorded 50,328 illegal entries into Germany between May 2025 and May 2026, highlighting the impact of tighter border controls introduced by the government.

Authorities said 36,786 people were turned back either at the border or while attempting to enter the country unlawfully during the period. A further 307 vulnerable individuals, including those requiring special protection, submitted asylum applications.

The figures follow stricter border enforcement measures introduced by Interior Minister Alexander Dobrindt, building on controls expanded by former Interior Minister Nancy Faeser.

Police also reported preventing the entry of 1,904 individuals subject to active re-entry bans, temporarily detaining 1,409 suspected people smugglers, and identifying 1,688 individuals linked to left-wing, right-wing, or foreign extremist movements.

In addition, border inspections led to the arrest of 9,396 people wanted under outstanding warrants, according to federal police data.
