The Great Egyptian Museum (GEM) will be opened to the public next months, according to the museum's officials.

The museum was originally targeted to open in 2022, but the Ministry of Tourism noted that the exhibits pushed the opening back.

GEM will be opened during major festivals, with activities to be held for interaction with the public.

"The museum features 20 shops, 8 restaurants, and a children's museum, besides the conference center," GEM's officials told SEE.

GEM started hosting some special events and activities, with a limited number of attendees in some sections and areas inside the museum that have been completed and equipped as part of the preparation for the trial operation phase.

Through these cultural and entertainment events, GEM offers visitors a rare chance to learn more about Egypt’s ancient past and explore some sections of the museum like the Hanging Obelisk Square, the main hall known as the Great Hall, the Children's Museum, gardens, restaurants, cafes, and souvenirs shops.

The GEM, which reflects the immense diversity of Egyptian history and culture, covers an area of more than 500,000 square meters (120 acres).

This massive venue is designed to showcase the world’s largest integrated collection of ancient Egyptian antiquities, which includes thousands of unique artifacts dating back thousands of years, to provide an enjoyable experience for visitors.

Once it is completed and opened for all visitors, GEM will be the home to the largest collection of Egyptian artifacts in Egypt and the rest of the world.

Here, you’ll discover many unique monuments, such as the statue of Ramses II, the ten statues of King Senwosret I, the famous "Kings of Saqqara List " painting, and the victory column of Merneptah, in addition to two statues of the kings of the Ptolemaic era.
