“GEM” Receives 309 Artifacts

The Grand Egyptian Museum in Al-Rimaya Square received, on Monday, 309 artifacts belonging to different eras, including 64 heavy artifacts coming from the Egyptian Museum in located in El Tahrir square, amid security measures from the Tourism and Antiquities Police.

Major General Atef Moftah, the General Supervisor of the Grand Egyptian Museum Project and the surrounding area, explained that some of these pieces will be displayed at the grand staircase, while others will be displayed in the museum's various exhibition halls, according to the period to which they belong.

Dr. Tayyeb Abbas, the archaeological affairs manager at the Great Egyptian Museum (GEM), added that one of the most important pieces are a statue of King Ramses II, a statue of goddess Sekhmet, a statue of Pharaoh Seti II, a large painting of pink granite of King Ramses IV, in addition to a group of statues that features the amazing ancient Egyptian art.

General Director of Executive Affairs for the Restoration and Transportation of Antiquities at the Museum Dr. Essa Zidan said that the transfer process was preceded by several different stages, including three-dimensional imaging and radar examination, in addition to the initial restoration work of some parts.

“The transfer process was carried out in cooperation with the Arab Contractors Company,” Zidan added.
