Following Saqqara dazzling discovery, Egypt’s Antiquities Minister Dr. Khaled Al Anani inspected on Saturday Grand Egyptian Museum (GEM) to follow-up work progress in the project, set to be inaugurated next 2020.
The minister was accompanied by General Supervisor of the GEM project Atef Moftah, Secretary-General of the Supreme Council of Antiquities Moustafa Waziri, Assistant Minister of Antiquities for Artistic Affairs Ahmed Obaid, Director General of Archaeological Affairs at the GEM Dr. Eltayeb Abbas.
Al-Anani inspected the restoration works at the obelisk, the Great Staircase and two halls of King Tutankhamun treasures.
He also listened to a detailed explanation of the Great Staircase display scenario as well as the arrangement and the placement of the pieces to facilitate the visitors’ tour and enable them to enjoy watching the pieces better.
It is worth mentioning that, the GEM is set to be officially inaugurated in 2020. The GEM complex is located on an area of approximately 500,000 square meters next to Giza Pyramids. It is considered one of the world’s largest museums.
The museum will also house a children's museum, an educational center, a handicraft center, an educational classroom, and a museum dedicated to solar boats.
The number of pieces transferred from the ship to GEM so far has reached 852 pieces.
