The Bibliotheca Alexandrina, in cooperation with the University of Athens and the Alexandria Antiquities Association, is organizing an international workshop entitled “Funeral Monuments, Art and Architecture in the Hellenistic and Roman Periods”, from July 3-7, 2022.

The workshop targets students and specialized researchers from Egypt and Greece who are interested in studying the monuments in the eastern Mediterranean during the Hellenistic and Roman periods.

A group of professors and specialists in Greek and Roman studies from Egypt, Greece, Cyprus and France will give lectures.

They will address a number of topics related to architecture and funerary art through a set of interdisciplinary studies that aim to provide an in-depth view of inpiduals and societies at that time.

Topics that will be discussed include social classes, ethnic and religious identities, the roles played by particular groups in society and their impact on major historical events and the way society dealt with the dead ones,.
