We are pleased that Slovakia and Egypt are joined in another collaborative initiative in the field of arts.

The exhibition “From Hieroglyphs to Cartoons” opened to the public from 14 till 27 May 2026 in MISR Public Library and will provide the visitors a unique journey through the universal language of cartoon humour reflected in more than fifty authentic artworks.

The partnership of Slovak and Egyptian artists unites two entities with vastly different backgrounds, histories, and cultural footprints.

Yet, they have found common ground in a shared perspective that uses satire, wit, and visual storytelling to navigate complex realities and celebrate mutual growth.

Contemporary cartoon humour works with signs, symbols, and visual shortcuts, just like hieroglyphs did in the past, requiring the ability to read 'between the lines'.

To find humour in everyday life is a testament to strength and maturity. Visitors are welcome to enjoy the art pieces and challenge themselves in finding the hidden meaning of exhibited cartoons.

The exhibition was created as part of bilateral cultural cooperation under the auspices of the Embassy of the Slovak Republic in Cairo in collaboration with the Gallery of Brain Sneezing in Prešov, the Egyptian Caricature Association and MISR Public Library.
