The Egyptian Russian Friendship Association, in cooperation with the Russian House in Cairo, organized a celebration marking Russian Diplomacy Day on February 10, attended by prominent diplomatic and cultural figures. Among them were Dr. Vadim Zaytchikov, Director of the Russian Cultural Centers in Egypt; Dr. Ibrahim Kamel, President of the Association; Ambassador Dr. Ezzat Saad, former Egyptian Ambassador to Russia and Vice President of the Association; and Sherif Gad, Secretary-General of the Association.

Sherif Gad opened the event with welcoming remarks, emphasizing that people-to-people communication reflects a genuine will to strengthen cooperation, and noting that cultural and humanitarian engagement naturally supports official diplomatic relations.
For his part, Dr. Vadim Zaytchikov highlighted the depth and historical significance of Egyptian-Russian relations, stressing the importance of public diplomacy in fostering mutual understanding and supporting cultural dialogue. He also praised the recent progress in cooperation with the Association.

Dr. Ibrahim Kamel extended his congratulations on the occasion, affirming that relations between Cairo and Moscow have reached the level of a strategic partnership and are steadily advancing to fulfill the aspirations of both peoples. Ambassador Ezzat Saad commended the many joint achievements, recalling the symbolic role of Yevgeny Primakov in strengthening bilateral cooperation.

Speakers also underscored the strong mutual understanding between Egyptian Foreign Minister Dr. Badr Abdel Aaty and his Russian counterpart Sergey Lavrov, reinforcing prospects for further coordination on issues of shared interest.
On the sidelines of the celebration, the Russian House laid wreaths at the statue of Yevgeny Primakov in its Cairo courtyard, honoring his prominent political role and expertise in Middle Eastern affairs, in the presence of Youth Club members.
A photo exhibition was also inaugurated, showcasing Primakov’s professional journey— which began in Cairo— and highlighting his global influence. The program further included a visit to the grave of Alexei Smirnov, the late Consul General of the Russian Empire in Egypt, located at St. George Cemetery in Old Cairo, in recognition of his historic role in establishing Egyptian-Russian relations.

The event concluded in a warm and friendly atmosphere, with Youth Club members reciting poems dedicated to diplomacy and national service. Special tribute was paid to Sergey Lavrov as a symbol of professionalism and refined culture in contemporary Russian diplomacy, reaffirming that public diplomacy remains a steadfast bridge strengthening the bonds of friendship between the Egyptian and Russian peoples
