The French Embassy in Cairo announced on Monday that Paris had sent an expert to Egypt to check the possibility of fixing the large antique clock at Saladin Citadel, which was gifted by Paris in 1845.
In a tweet, the embassy said: "Upon a request from the Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities, France sends François Simon-Fustier, an expert in watchmaking, to repair the citadel's antique clock."

It is worth noting that the clock was dysfunctional since its installation in the citadel's tower in 1845. The clock was presented by King of France Louis Philippe to Egypt's King Mohammed Ali who gifted Ramses II obelisk, which decorates the Concorde Square in the French capital, Paris.
Secretary-General of the Supreme Council of Antiquities Mostafa Waziri said there were three attempts to repair the clock, latest of which was during the reign of King Farouk, adding the clock did not work since its arrival to Egypt.
