About three months after leaving K-pop boy group Enhypen, the singer formerly known as Heeseung, has officially embarked on his solo career under the new stage name Evan, with his debut project "Ride or Die".

The singer left the group in March to pursue a solo career, though his agency, Belift Lab, had not previously detailed a timeline for his individual activities.

Released on Monday, "Ride or Die" — titled after a phrase that signifies standing by someone through every circumstance — features the lead track of the alternative rock genre of the same name and the indie B-side track "Overflow."

The song "Ride or Die" is an alternative rock track that captures the emotions associated with longing for someone's love.

The music video for "Ride or Die" reflects the song title's idea of unwavering loyalty, depicting Evan alongside a weathered car that remains constantly by his side.

"Overflow," meanwhile, presents a contrasting mood with its more laid-back sound.

Evan took a leading role in the project, participating in songwriting, composition, producing, and overall visual creative direction.

"Ride or Die" offers a first glimpse into who Evan is as an individual and the stories he hopes to tell through his music.

With the album, Evan strips away all expectations and aims to start over and present an unfiltered side of himself.

It is defined by a commitment to pursuing the kind of music that feels most authentic to him.

"Ride or Die" also carries the weight of serving as a reintroduction to the artist fans have grown to love over the past seven years.

Over the past days, Evan posted covers of tracks by SZA and Justin Bieber, subtly introducing his fans to the sounds and influences that inform "Ride or Die".

"For everyone, life is a process of finding one's true self," he said. "As I continue making music, I believe I will discover the most authentic version of myself."

Evan also expressed hope that his new release would offer "hope and comfort" to many listeners. "Just as the music of artists I loved gave me strength, I hope my music can become not only a source of hope but even a reason to keep going for someone."

Born Lee Hee-seung, Evan first gained attention as a participant in the K-pop competition program "I-LAND," which led to his debut as a member of ENHYPEN in 2020.

Evan amassed 1 million followers within three hours of launching his Instagram account in April. He’s now around 5 million followers.
