Egypt’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Emigration, and Egyptian Expatriates, Dr. Badr Abdelatty, received on Sunday Massad Boulos, the Senior Advisor to the US President for Arab and African Affairs.
The meeting comes within the framework of ongoing consultation and coordination between the two sides regarding several regional files of mutual interest.
Tamim Khallaf, Official spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, stated that the meeting reaffirmed the depth of the Egyptian-US strategic partnership and the mutual commitment to further strengthening bilateral cooperation across various fields.
The two officials also emphasized the continuation of coordination and consultation on regional and international issues of common concern, while exchanging views on the latest regional issues.
Regarding the situation in Sudan, Minister Abdelatty reviewed Egypt's ongoing efforts to support Sudan’s security, stability, and the preservation of its unity, sovereignty, and national institutions.
He emphasized the critical importance of reaching a sustainable ceasefire, intensifying human rights and humanitarian responses, and supporting a comprehensive, purely Sudanese-led and owned political process.
This process, he noted, must safeguard Sudan's unity and fulfill the aspirations of its people for security, stability, and development.
The meeting also addressed the latest developments in Libya.
In this regard, FM reiterated Egypt’s firm position supporting Libya’s unity and stability, stressing the necessity of preserving the integrity of its national institutions.
He also called for reaching a comprehensive political settlement through a Libyan-Libyan track that leads to holding simultaneous presidential and parliamentary elections as soon as possible.
Furthermore, both sides exchanged views on international efforts to advance the political process in Libya.
Abdelatty affirmed Egypt's support for all UN, regional, and international efforts—including American initiatives—aimed at achieving a sustainable political settlement that preserves the unity of the Libyan state and meets the aspirations of its people.
The official spokesperson added that the meeting touched upon developments in the Horn of Africa.
Abdelatty underscored the importance of maintaining security and stability in the region, given that it constitutes a direct extension of Egyptian national security.
He stressed the need to support national state institutions, respect state sovereignty and territorial integrity, and reject any measures or policies that could undermine regional stability.
On the issue of water security, Abdelatty emphasized the importance of adhering to the rules of international law governing the use of transboundary water resources in a way that serves the interests of all Nile Basin countries.
He reiterated Egypt’s rejection of unilateral measures in the Eastern Nile Basin, stressing that water security represents an existential issue for Egypt.
For his part, Mr. Massad Boulos praised the pivotal role Egypt plays in supporting security and stability in the region.
He underscored the importance of continued coordination and consultation with Egypt on various regional issues to serve mutual interests and contribute to enhancing regional peace and security.
