Foreign Minister ( FM) Sameh Shoukry said on Sunday, that the whole world has witnessed unprecedented Israeli provocations in Jerusalem.
Addressing the United Nations (UN) Security Council virtual meeting, Shoukry said, "The Palestinian issue has witnessed successive setbacks throughout its history, which brought us to the current scene."
"It has been 72 years since the start of the Palestinian tragedy," FM continued, stressing that 'forced displacement is a systematic Israeli policy.'
Moreover, Shoukry urged the UN security council to resolve the current crisis, affirming that ongoing Israeli aggression on Gaza threatens the future of peace in the region.
"Efforts must be intensified to stop Israeli military operations and provocations in Jerusalem," he added, underlining the need to reactivate the international Quartet to resume peace negotiations."
In addition, Shoukry stressed, "peace in the region cannot be realized without an independent State of Palestine, based on the pre-1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as the capital."
FM also added that Egypt is setting up extensive contacts, to establish an immediate ceasefire and to revive serious negotiations.
It is worth mentioning that, Palestinian Health Ministry announced on Sunday that 181 people including 52 children and 31 women were killed, and 1225 were wounded, as a result of the Israeli attacks on the Gaza Strip.
