Egypt's Foreign Minister (FM) Sameh Shoukry received on Tuesday Qatari Minister of Foreign Affairs and Deputy Prime Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman al-Thani at al-Tahrir Palace.

The meeting aimed to discuss the positive developments witnessed by the bilateral ties between both countries following the signing of the "Al-Ula agreement" in January 2021, Foreign Ministry spokesman Ahmed Hafez said in a statement.

"They underlined the need to build on this key step via taking more measures aimed at enhancing the positive atmosphere during the coming period," the statement read. "They also touched upon the importance of working to take advantage of the great economic and investment opportunities available in the two countries in the interests of the two brotherly countries and peoples."

Hafez added that the talks also tackled ways to advance joint Arab action mechanisms in facing the challenges in the Arab and regional surroundings, especially in light of Qatar's presidency of Arab League Council, as well as discussing the two countries' positions on the most key regional issues, including Ethiopian Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam (GERD) developments.

It is worth mentioning that, Qatari FM arrived in Cairo on Monday for a two-day visit as part of a regional tour.
