Heavy rain has triggered flooding, road closures, and evacuations in southern New Zealand, with authorities urging residents in Dunedin and the neighboring Waitaki district to stay indoors and avoid unnecessary travel.
New Zealand's meteorological service said around 100 millimeters of rain fell across Dunedin and Oamaru over the past 24 hours, raising concerns over further flooding.
Forecasters expect the storm system to move north towards Canterbury and Marlborough, prompting officials to remain on alert as adverse weather conditions continue to affect parts of the country.
