The release date for the next installment of Universal Pictures’ “Fast & Furious” saga has been pushed back to May 2023.
The 10th chapter in the franchise is slated to hit theaters on May 19, a little more than a month from its initial release date of April 7, 2023.
The new date moves the movie into the summer blockbuster season.
Universal is taking advantage of the empty space and will fill the slot with an untitled animated movie. It moves from the previously announced March 24, 2023 slot.
No details yet on the project beyond that it is from the studio behind “Shrek” and promises to be an event.

The latest installment in the saga “F9”, also known as “F9: The Fast Saga” and “Fast & Furious 9” opened in theaters last summer.
It allocated $726 million globally, an impressive figure that was less than other movies in the series primarily due to the coronavirus pandemic having depressed ticket sales.
The saga has become one of Universal’s most enduring and valuable franchises, spawning sequels and spinoffs since the first installment opened two decades ago.
Justin Lin, the director of the ninth movie in the series as well as several installments, returns behind for the upcoming installment.
The tenth entry will also feature long-standing members of the “Fast” family such as Vin Diesel, Sung Kang, Nathalie Emmanuel, Michelle Rodriguez, Ludacris, and others.
