Universal has tapped Louis Leterrier to direct the 11th and final Fast and Furious film after he stepped in to direct "Fast X", set to hit theaters on May 19.

The 11th installment is set to be the second part of the two-film conclusion to the franchise.

The first installment of the “Fast and the Furious” franchise premiered in 2001 and now has billions of dollars at the worldwide box office, spin-off movies, spin-off TV shows, amusement park rides, video games, and more.

What started as a simple action movie starring relatively unknown actors like Vin Diesel, Paul Walker, and Michelle Rodriguez has turned into a massive success. It has also helped launch the careers of the people in front of the camera and behind.

The tenth film will pick up with Dominic Toretto (Diesel) and his crew, as they look to fend off the pair of big bads that are out for them — the cyberterrorist Cipher (Charlize Theron) and her mysterious cohort, Dante (Jason Momoa) — with the help of a new friend, Tess (Brie Larson).

Michelle Rodriguez, Tyrese Gibson, Sung Kang, Chris “Ludacris” Bridges, Alan Ritchson, Nathalie Emmanuel, Michael Rooker, Helen Mirren, Daniela Melchior, Jordana Brewster, John Cena, Jason Statham, Rita Moreno, Leo Abelo, Cardi B and Scott Eastwood are among the many others set to star.

Lin and Dan Mazeau wrote the script, with Diesel, Lin, Jeff Kirschenbaum, Samantha Vincent, and Neal Moritz serving as producers.
