Farouk Hosny, the Founder of the Farouk Hosny Foundation for Culture and Arts and the former Minister of Culture, mourned the death of artist Farghali Abdel Hafiz Friday.

Hosny expressed his sorrow for the death of the iconic artist who enriched the domestic and international scene of arts with his influential contributions.

He added: "Praying to God Almighty to bless him with His mercy and inspire his family, and students with patience and solace."

Born in 1941, Abdel Hafiz discovered varied styles and techniques of painting.

His brushstrokes were described as spontaneous. He used them to express his emotions and personality.

He experimented with different materials such as oil, watercolor, pencils, acrylics, corn stalk, sand, mud, clay and metals.

He also was so influenced by the Nubian culture, and formed an influential arts stream with Al Nashar, Nawar and Al Razzaz in 1989.

In 1984, he established his own gallery in Dahshour, Egypt.

The award-winning artist participated in several exhibitions around the world, and he designed the decorations of Aida in Prague in 1994.
