Marvel Studios is assembling legacy MCU heroes, many X-Men stalwarts from the Fox movies, and new characters to face the villain Doctor Doom, played by Robert Downey Jr.
The company has been playing teasers for the multiversal epic during the previews of “Avatar: Fire and Ash” screenings to build hype for the pic.
The third and latest teaser focused on Patrick Stewart’s Charles Xavier, Sir Ian McKellan’s Magneto, and James Marsden’s Cyclops.
Boosted by Marvel boss Kevin Feige's confirmation that other cast members are yet to be announced, there has been intense speculation about which other classic X-Men cast members will be joining the MCU in the epic.
In conversation with the Power of X podcast, legendary "X-Men" writer Chris Claremont has dropped a massive surprise, hinting that Famke Janssen’s Jean Grey may well be turning up as well.
While it’s unclear how well-connected Claremont is in terms of the MCU right now, he did confirm Chris Evans’ return as Steve Rogers in an interview back in April 2025, long before it became public knowledge. That suggests he may well be right about Janssen’s Jean Grey.
Janssen’s Jean Grey is an Omega mutant, defined in the comics as “a mutant whose dominant power is deemed to register — or reach — an undefinable upper limit of that power’s specific classification.”
The mutant powers have unlimited potential, largely because Grey is bound to the Phoenix Force.
"X-Men: The Last Stand" was loosely adapted from Jean’s most iconic story, “The Dark Phoenix Saga,” which highlighted just how powerful she really is.
It’s too soon to say for sure whether Janssen will indeed be back in "Avengers: Doomsday".
If proven right, Janssen, Stewart, McKellen, and Marsden will be joined by Kelsey Grammer’s Beast, Alan Cumming’s Nightcrawler, Channing Tatum’s Gambit, and Rebecca Romijn’s Mystique in “Doomsday.”
They’ll also cross paths with “Avengers” characters like Chris Hemsworth, Chris Evans, Anthony Mackie, Danny Ramirez, Sebastian Stan, Paul Rudd, Tom Hiddleston, Letitia Wright, Winston Duke, and Simu Liu.
The mega team-up will also include “Fantastic Four” stars Pedro Pascal, Vanessa Kirby, Joseph Quinn, and Ebon Moss-Bachrach, plus the “Thunderbolts” anti-heroes Florence Pugh, David Harbour, Wyatt Russell, Hannah John-Kamen, and Lewis Pullman.
"Avengers: Doomsday" will be the big Christmas movie, premiering on December 18, 2026.
