Exhibition Entitled "Khedive Al Kanah" to Be Opened at Manial Palace Sunday

On the 150th anniversary of the Suez Canal opening, the Manial Palace will open a temporary archaeological exhibition entitled Khepe Al Kanah (the Suez Canal`s Khepe) on Sunday.

Moamen Othman, Head of the Manial Palace `s museums sector said: “This exhibition commemorates the Suez Canal opening by displaying a collection of artifacts that document this important event.”

On his part, Walaa El-Din Badawi, director of the Manial Palace said: "The exhibition includes a variety belonging to the governor Mohamed Sa'id Pasha, who represents the gesture of the beginning of the project and Khepe Ismail, who opened the channel during his reign."

“Among the most prominent pieces to be displayed are a collection of coins representing the anniversary of the opening of the Suez Canal,” Badawi added. “A group of cups bearing the name and image of Khepe Ismail and a rare oil painting with Crown Prince Tawfiq standing in front of a bust of the founder of the Alawite state Muhammad Ali Pasha will be included.”

He went on saying: “It will include one of the rarest and most prominent paintings depicting one of the scenes of the opening of the Suez Canal by artist Edward Rio who Isma'il Pasha brought him especially from France to paint the opening and celebration.”
