Prince Charles Philip, son of British Queen, Elizabeth, and his wife Camilla are set to visit Egypt's historical sites such as the Pyramids of Giza, Alazhar, and Ancient Cairo today.

On this occasion, a reception will be held for the British prince and duchess at the Great Pyramids of Giza.

Charles, who is dubbed the Duke of Wales, and his wife Camilla's visit to Egypt comes as the UK holds the COP presidency and Egypt has been nominated to assume the Cop27 presidency in 2022.

Their historical visit also comes amid concerns about the health of Queen Elizabeth II, who missed the annual Remembrance Service at the Cenotaph in London on Sunday “having sprained her back.”

If you can’t wait that long to find out about this inspiring man, check out the pictures and lesser-known facts about Charles below.

The maven ruler is also the longest-serving Prince of Wales, having held the title since July 1958. Upon the death of his father and the King of Great Britain, Prince Philip, on 9 April 2021, Charles also inherited the title of Duke of Edinburgh.

Charles dictated his entire life to raising and promoting social justice, human ethics, children’s rights in the world and acceptance of others and tolerance towards other religions. Consequently, Prince Charles would also participate in an interfaith discussion in Egypt.

During his historical visit that took place in 2015, Charles acknowledged the role the Sunni theological centre plays in fighting extremist discourse and clarifying the real image of Islam as a religion of tolerance and peace.

In 2005, Prince Charles had received an honorary doctorate from Al-Azhar University, in appreciation for his stance opposing the cartoons published by Danish newspaper Jyllands-Posten which depicted Islamic prophet, Muhammad.

His dramatic and tragic story began, of course, well after he fell in love with Princess Diana, the so-called Peoples’ Princess, in 1980 when they were both invited to stay at Philip de Pass’ house in Sussex.

After that, their romance went from strength to strength and the two announced their engagement in February 1981.

At the age of 19, Lady Diana married Charles, who was twice her age and sounded much more passionate than her.

Their royal wedding was watched by a global television audience of 750 million in 74 countries, with 600,000 people eagerly lining the streets of London between the Cathedral and Buckingham Palace, according to English media.

The lovely couple had two children together, Prince William and Prince Harry, who are counted among the most senior and influential members of the Royal Family today. On August 28, 1996, Prince of Wales and Diana’s marriage sadly ended in porce.
