On Sunday, the spokesperson of the European Union (EU)'s foreign affairs and security policy, Peter Stano, said that the EU strongly condemns the assassination attempt against Prime Minister Mustafa al-Kadhimi.
"The perpetrators of this attempted attack must be held accountable. Any violence is unacceptable and must not be allowed to undermine the democratic process," Stano added in a statement.
He confirmed that calm, restraint and dialogue are essential in the post-election period. All parties must engage in political dialogue and cooperation to address the challenges Iraq is facing, in the interest of the country and the Iraqi people.
"The EU continues to support the Iraqi people on their path toward peace, stability and prosperity," he concluded.
Kadhimi has survived an assassination attempt when a drone laden with explosives targeted his house inside the Green Zone in Baghdad at dawn.
