“Game of Thrones” alum Emilia Clarke will star in “When Darkness Loves Us,” a horror movie that has been boarded by Bleecker Street and will premiere in 2027.
James Ashcroft directed the pic from a script he co-wrote with Hayley Sproull and Eli Kent.
Adapted from Elizabeth Engstrom’s 1980s novella of the same name, "When Darkness Loves Us" follows a young woman (Clarke) who, after surviving 15 years trapped in an underground cave system, returns to the surface to reclaim the family she believes is hers, “no matter the monstrous cost,” per the logline.
Rounding out the cast are Marlon Williams (“Sweet Tooth”), Victoria Pedretti (“You”) and Natascha McElhone (“The Truman Show”).
"When Darkness Loves Us" just wrapped filming in New Zealand.
Bleecker’s deal encompasses all global territories, excluding New Zealand and Australia. The pact was negotiated by Miranda King and Avy Eschenasy for Bleecker Street and CAA Media Finance on behalf of the filmmakers.
That’s not it for the film side, Clarke upcoming projects include the Drake Doremus-directed romantic drama “Next Life” co-starring with Édgar Ramírez and Jack Farthing.
She has also been cast as Mallory in the Prime Video series adaptation of Ed Brubaker‘s comic book “Criminal,” which also has Charlie Hunnam, Richard Jenkins, Luke Evans, Adria Arjona, and others among the cast.
Ashcroft has most recently worked with high-profile actors Robert De Niro, Michelle Monaghan, Adam Scott, and Michael Keaton on his Netflix crime thriller “The Whisper Man.”
