El- Gezira Center for Modern Art known as the Egyptian Modern Art Museum, is an art museum for modern and contemporary art. It is part of the National Cultural Centre on El -Gezira Island, in Qasr el-Nil Street at downtown Cairo.
The museum which was built in 1936, was opened on August 25 in 1957.
The museum displays more than 10,000 paintings and sculptures that show the development of the Egyptian art movement from the early 20th century pioneers through contemporary artists' works.

There is a permanent collection of works by renowned Egyptian artists, like Mahmoud Sa'id, Ragheb Ayad, Mohammed Naghi, Gazbia Sirry, Inji Eflatoun, Tahia Halim, Abdel Hadi el-Gazzar and Ahmed Morsi.
It also has a collection of works by Ibrahim Mohammed Khalil, one of the pioneering innovators of modern Arabic calligraphy in Egypt.
It regionally distinguished for its 4288-piece collection of wonderful items and exhibits which were confiscated in royal palaces.

The museum has a big collection of Bohemian gilt glassware in the eastern style, enamelled glassware in the Islamic style back to the 11th and 18th centuries in Egypt.
There is a fascinating collection of ceramics produced by Graeco Roman, Russian and Turkish artisans.
The invaluable exhibits also include Islamic tapestries and Persian carpets made by skilled weavers in Isfahan, Kharasan and Samarkand.
The museum’s exhibits include a number of China porcelains that were made in different ages.
El- Gezira Museum has a big collection of tapestry and batiks woven by Coptic artisans in the 5th, 6th and 7th centuries.
