Mr. Sherif Fathy, Egypt’s Minister of Tourism and Antiquities, received a series of high-profile visits today at the Egyptian pavilion during the 60th edition of the ITB Berlin 2026 international travel trade show.
The pavilion hosted several key international figures, including:
Mr. Kai Wegner, Governing Mayor of Berlin.
Dr. Christoph Ploß, Federal Government Coordinator for the Maritime Industry and Tourism.
Ms. Shaikha Al-Nowais, Secretary-General of UN Tourism.
Ms. Gloria Guevara, President & CEO of the World Travel & Tourism Council (WTTC).
Mr. Albin Loidl, President of the German Travel Association (DRV).
Dr. Mario Tobias, CEO of Messe Berlin.
Mr. Dirk Hoffmann, COO of Messe Berlin.
Accompanied by Dr. Mohamed El-Badri, Egypt’s Ambassador to Berlin, the dignitaries toured the pavilion, with a particular focus on the large-scale miniature model of the Grand Egyptian Museum (GEM). During the tour, guests were introduced to traditional Egyptian cuisine and heritage beverages, particularly those associated with the holy month of Ramadan.
Diplomatic Invitations and Strategic Engagement
The Mayor of Berlin expressed his profound interest in visiting the Grand Egyptian Museum, confirming it is a top priority on his upcoming agenda. In response, Minister Sherif Fathy extended an official invitation to the Mayor to visit Egypt to experience the museum firsthand and explore the country’s diverse and unique tourism offerings.
The reception was attended by a high-level Egyptian delegation, including Dr. Ahmed Youssef, CEO of the Egyptian Tourism Promotion Board (ETPB), and Ms. Yomna Othman, Deputy Ambassador, alongside senior ministry and marketing officials.
Inauguration of the Egyptian Pavilion
Earlier today, Minister Sherif Fathy officially inaugurated the Egyptian pavilion at ITB Berlin. The event, which runs from March 3 to 5, features an annual participation by the Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities, represented by the ETPB.
Following the opening, the Minister held meetings with Egyptian exhibitors to discuss current inbound tourism trends and performance indicators for the Egyptian market.
