Mr. Sherif Fathy, Minister of Tourism and Antiquities, chaired the Board of Directors meeting of the National Museum of Egyptian Civilization (NMEC) at its headquarters in Fustat. The Minister opened the session by welcoming board members and outlining the strategic direction for the landmark institution.

During the meeting, Dr. Al-Tayeb Abbas, CEO of the NMEC Authority, presented a comprehensive report on the museum’s activities over the past three months. Highlights included a diverse array of:
Cultural and artistic events.
Specialized training programs and academic lectures.
Interactive community workshops.
The Board reviewed key performance indicators for the period from January to March 2026, comparing them to the same period last year. Data revealed a significant surge in foreign tourist arrivals, alongside a steady growth in revenue generated from ticket sales and various onsite services.
Digital Expansion: Virtual and Immersive Reality
In a move to modernize the visitor experience, the Board approved a proposal to establish a new Interactive Exhibition Hall within the museum's existing spaces.
"The new hall will integrate Virtual Reality (VR) and Immersive Reality technologies, offering visitors a cutting-edge, interactive journey through Egyptian history," the Ministry stated.
Development Updates
The meeting also touched upon several key infrastructure and operational projects:
Mummification Hall: Updates were provided on the final preparations for this gallery. Artifacts are currently being installed to complete the hall’s specialized display scenario.
Service Optimization: The Board held extensive discussions regarding the museum’s operating company, focusing on enhancing facility management and upgrading visitor services to meet international standards.
