Egypt's Non-oil Exports Spike to Register $18 Billion

The value of Egypt's non-oil exports during the month of September increased by 4% to reach $2.149 billion, compared to $ 2.058 billion, year-on-year, according to the General Organization for Export and Import Control (GOEIC).

However, due to the precautions of the COVID-19 pandemic, the volume of Egypt's non-oil exports dropped, in first 9 months of this year to reach $18.149 billion, compared to $18.81 billion during the same period in 2019, a decrease of 3.6%.

Ismail Jaber, head of the GOEIC, said on Thursday that the increase in exports during the month of September comes in light of the growth of 9 sectors, on top of which is printing and packaging, which increased by 69% to record $87 million compared to $52 million.

Building materials exports also increased by 34% in September to reach $559 million compared to $417 million, year-on-year. Moreover, Egyptian handicrafts increased by 12% to record $21 million in Sep. 2020 against $19 million in 2019.

In addition, furniture exports increased during Sep. to reach $24 million against $19 million, a growth of 28%. Upholstery fabrics exports also saw an 8% increase to $43 million, compared to $40 million.

Jaber said that there is also an increase in exports of engineering industries, spinning and textiles with varying percentages.
