Egypt's natural gas imports more than doubled in April 2026, surpassing $1 billion for the month, according to the latest foreign trade data released by the Central Agency for Public Mobilization and Statistics (CAPMAS).
The value of natural gas imports rose to approximately $1.052 billion in April, compared with $520.5 million in the same month of 2025, an increase of $531.7 million or 102.2% year on year.
Natural gas was among the largest contributors to the increase in Egypt's import bill during the month, with the broader fuel category accounting for approximately $9.9 billion in total imports in April.
On a cumulative basis, Egypt's natural gas imports reached approximately $3.39 billion during the January–April 2026 period, up from $2.41 billion in the corresponding period of 2025, reflecting a continued rise in the country's gas import bill during the first four months of the year.
The increase comes as Egypt has expanded natural gas imports to help meet domestic demand, particularly during periods of elevated electricity consumption.
