Mehdi Oghabaei, a member of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the National Council of Resistance of Iran (NCRI), said that the expanding activities of the Resistance Units in Zahedan demonstrate that the center of Iran’s political struggle has decisively shifted back inside the country. Despite relentless repression, the ruling theocracy has failed to break the determination of the Iranian people or suppress the organized resistance.
Oghabaei said the messages displayed by the Resistance Units present a comprehensive political vision: Iran’s future will not be determined by foreign wars or appeasement policies, but by the Iranian people and their organized resistance in establishing a democratic republic. He stressed that the slogan “No to the Shah, No to the Mullahs” reflects the Iranian people's rejection of every form of dictatorship, whether under a crown or a turban, and their aspiration for a democratic system based on freedom, free elections, and popular sovereignty.
He emphasized that designating the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) as a terrorist organization is not merely a political demand but an essential requirement for regional and international security. The IRGC, he said, remains the principal instrument of domestic repression while exporting terrorism, proxy warfare, and regional instability. In this regard, he welcomed the United Kingdom’s decision to proscribe the IRGC and urged other European governments to adopt similar measures.
Oghabaei also highlighted the statement signed by more than 120 prominent Arab figures condemning the Iranian regime’s regional interference, describing it as evidence of growing Arab recognition that the principal source of instability in the Middle East is the expansionist project directed by the IRGC through its proxy militias.
He added that the regime’s long-standing attempt to portray the conflict as one between Iran and foreign powers has lost credibility. The growing wave of protests and the expanding operations of the Resistance Units clearly demonstrate that the real confrontation is between the Iranian people and the ruling dictatorship. As external pretexts diminish, the strength of the domestic movement becomes even more evident.
Oghabaei stressed that the developments in Zahedan confirm Maryam Rajavi’s message before the Italian Parliament: “As long as this regime remains in power, there will be neither peace nor stability in the region. Lasting peace and security require the overthrow of this regime by the Iranian people and their organized resistance.”
He concluded that the Resistance Units represent not only the Iranian people's struggle for freedom but also a genuine project for regional peace. The overthrow of the ruling theocracy would end the export of terrorism and war, paving the way for a democratic Iran living in peace with its neighbors. Supporting the Iranian people and their organized resistance, he said, therefore serves the interests of Iran, the Middle East, and the international community alike.
