Egypt's Imports of Agricultural Commodities Decline by $142Mln

Egypt's imports of agricultural commodities recorded a remarkable decline during the recent period, according to government data. The value of Egyptian imports amounted to about $500 million and 243 thousand last September, compared to $642 million and 881 thousand in September 2019, with a decline of $142 million and 638 thousand.

The Central Agency for Public Mobilization and Statistics (CAPMAS) monitored that wheat imports were at the top of the decline list of agricultural commodities. The decline in wheat imports amounted to about $ 282 million and 720 thousand last September, compared to $ 337 million and 957 thousand in the same month in 2019, a decline of $ 55 million and 237 thousand.

The Egyptian imports of plums decreased and amounted to $3 million and 169 thousand, compared to 4 million and 461 thousand during the comparison period, a decline of $ 1 million and 292 thousand.

Egyptian imports have achieved a remarkable decline in the recent period, as the value of Egyptian imports reached about $ 5.03 billion in September, compared to $ 6.39 billion in September 2019, a decline of 21.3%.

In its monthly bulletin of foreign trade data in September 2020, the CAPMAS said that the value of the trade balance deficit amounted to about $ 2.7 billion during last September, compared to $ 4 billion for the same month of the previous year, a decrease of 32.4%.
