Egypt's head of General Intelligence Service (GIS) Abbas Kamel, met Monday with US Ambassador to Libya, Richard B. Norland, who is currently in Cairo for talks with officials, and U.S. Ambassador to Cairo Jonathan R. Cohen.

"While in #Cairo, Amb. Cohen and I had productive consultations with the Director of Egypt’s General Intelligence Service on how to support the Libyan Political Dialogue Forum and genuine de-escalation in #Libya," Norland said on Twitter on Tuesday.

Kamel and the US ambassadors tackled ways to help the Libyan parties to resolve the current crisis, accelerate efforts to reach a political process, unify state institutions, restore oil exports, and fairly distribute oil revenues.

They also discussed the ongoing Egyptian efforts towards solving the Libyan crisis, the outcomes of Hurghada meetings that took place at the end of September, facilitated by the UN Support Mission in Libya (UNSML).

The Red Sea resort city, hosted two days of talks, between delegations representing the Government of the National Accord and Libyan National Army.

In a statement, UNSMIL said that the talks focused on the military and security aspects as well as the resumption of oil production and export.

The talks also yielded a set of recommendations, including the immediate release and exchange of all those detained during military operations before the end of October as well as putting a stop to all hate speech campaigns in Libyan media, and replacing it with a discourse of tolerance and reconciliation.

The 5+5 Libyan Joint Military Commission talks between the Libyan rivals are set to continue this week.
