Egypt's Former Culture Min. Gaber Asfour Passes Away at 77

Egypt's former Minister of Culture Gaber Asfour has passed away on Friday at the age of 77, after falling ill and entering the ICU a few days ago.

Asfour, was born on March 25, 1944, he was a writer, philosopher, researcher, academic, and critic.

The former minister is known for publishing “Countering Fanaticism”, “Times of the Novel”, and “In Defense of the Enlightenment”.

In 1992, he served as the General Secretary of the Supreme Council for Culture. Asfour was appointed minister of culture during the 2011 Egyptian protests but resigned after one week due to health problems.
