Egypt's Dar Al-Ifta pavilion at the Cairo International Book Fair hosted a seminar titled "Fatwa and Online Gambling," which received significant engagement from attendees.
The seminar was moderated by Dr. Amr Al-Wardani, Fatwa consultant at Dar Al-Ifta, who warned against the dangers of online gambling, highlighting that it has become a societal issue leading to crimes such as murder, suicide, and theft.
The participants, including Dr. Mahmoud Hamed Othman, Member of the Islamic Research Academy and Major General Radi Abdel-Moati, Faculty Member at the Police Academy, emphasized the religious prohibition of such practices and the necessity of legally criminalizing them to protect youth and society.
They also reaffirmed that Dar Al-Ifta has issued a definitive fatwa prohibiting online gambling.
The seminar discussed the role of religious, legal, and security institutions in tackling this phenomenon. Dr. Mahmoud Othman explained that Islamic law prohibits anything that leads to financial ruin, while Major General Radi Abdel-Moati stressed the need to strengthen legislation to combat online gambling, which has become an organized crime using advanced technologies to deceive victims.
The participants underscored the importance of media awareness and collaboration between various institutions to curb its spread, calling for the launch of awareness campaigns and enhanced legal oversight to prevent further victimization.
