Egypt's Cabinet on Wednesday approved a package of decisions, including a three-month extension, through Oct. 12, 2026, for applications from tenants seeking alternative housing under the country's new rent law. It also approved the establishment of a mixed-use investment zone at the Al Burouj development east of Cairo, with investments estimated at 7.6 billion Egyptian pounds and about 15,000 expected jobs.

The Cabinet also approved a draft presidential decree on a financing agreement with the French Development Agency (AFD) to support the next phase of Egypt's universal health insurance reform. The program is aimed at strengthening governance, improving financial sustainability and supporting the country's green health care strategy.

Separately, the Cabinet renewed contracts for Egypt's smart subsidy card system for another year, approved the creation of several new state-backed companies and capital increases in existing firms, transferred oversight of 16 state-owned land plots to local authorities, and extended by one year the mandate of a committee studying the environmentally sensitive Wadi El-Allaqi area in Aswan.
