Egypt’s agricultural exports exceeded 5 million tons since the beginning of the year, marking a significant milestone in the country’s efforts to strengthen its global trade footprint and enhance the competitiveness of its farming sector.

The announcement was made by Minister of Agriculture and Land Reclamation Alaa Farouk, who said the figures reflect growing international demand for Egyptian agricultural products and the success of ongoing state-led efforts to expand export capacity.

According to a report issued by the Central Administration for Plant Quarantine, citrus fruits topped Egypt’s agricultural exports, exceeding 2 million tons, followed by fresh potatoes at around 883,000 tons. Sweet potatoes ranked next with 189,000 tons.

Exports of fresh and dried beans surpassed 110,000 tons, while fresh onions reached 85,000 tons. Other exported commodities included grapes, strawberries, garlic, tomatoes, guavas, and pomegranates.

Farouk also confirmed that Egypt successfully opened 21 new export markets during the first half of 2026, spanning Asia, Latin America, and the Caribbean.

New destinations include Uzbekistan, Vietnam, Mexico, Peru, Uruguay, Panama, El Salvador, and the Dominican Republic, among others.

The minister said the expansion reflects increasing international confidence in Egypt’s agricultural inspection and quarantine systems, which ensure compliance with global food safety and quality standards.
