Khaled El-Enany, the Minister of Tourism and Antiquities opened the Egyptian textile hall in the National Museum of Egyptian Civilization (NMEC), after completing its preparation work to receive the public.
The hall will re-display a unique set of antiquities that were present in the Textile Museum in Al Moez Street, in addition to a number of artifacts that were transferred from a number of Egyptian museums and warehouses to tell the history of Egyptian textiles throughout different ages.
Mostafa Waziri, the Secretary-General of the Supreme Council of Antiquities, confirmed that opening the Egyptian Textile Hall will be the new station for one of the most prominent museums specializing in Egyptian textiles.
It is worthy to note that the decision of the Permanent Committee of Islamic Antiquities was taken to close the Textile Museum and transfer its possessions to the National Museum of Egyptian Civilization in Fustat, due to the poor structural condition of the building, and the start of its restoration work.
More than 250 artifacts were transferred from the Egyptian Museum in Tahrir, the Museum of Islamic Art in Bab Al-Khalq, the Mohamed Ali Palace in Al Manial, the Agriculture Museum in Dokki, and the stores of the National Museum of Egyptian Civilization, to enrich the museum display.
On his part, Ahmed Ghoneim, the CEO of the National Museum of Egyptian Civilization, explained that the Egyptian Textile Hall is a temporary exhibition hall; it was an exhibition of Egyptian crafts and industries through the ages.
