The Egyptian Museum in Tahrir recently organized a scientific forum on mosaic art. This event was part of the museum's cultural and educational activities aimed at promoting scientific and cultural communication between the museum and various institutions and universities interested in antiquities.

The forum was attended by a number of archaeologists from the Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities, as well as several Egyptian universities.

In his address, Professor Dr. Ali Abdel Halim, the Director General of the Egyptian Museum, noted that this event was aligned with the museum's goal of enlightening the community and contributing to the promotion of the Greco-Roman Museum in Alexandria as it prepares for its opening.

The forum included a series of lectures, starting with Dr. Iman Mohsen El-Shahawy's presentation on the art of mosaics in the city of Alexandria. She discussed the sites where various mosaics were found, including the Shatby area, the ruins of the ancient Library of Alexandria, and the Raml Station area.

Professor Dr. Sobhi Ashour, a member of the Museum Display Scenario Committee at the Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities, delivered a lecture on ancient mosaics and their artistic and archaeological contexts.

He showcased various archaeological paintings, including the lion hunting mosaic and the deer hunting mosaic from Shatby.

Professor Dr. Mona Fouad, a member of the Permanent Committee for Antiquities, spoke about the restoration and maintenance of mosaics. She provided examples of restoration work done on the floor of the church of the Monastery of St. Catherine in Sinai. Dr. Dina Yousry, the Vice Dean of the Faculty of Fine Arts at Mansoura University, discussed the use of mosaics in modern and contemporary art.

The series of lectures concluded with a presentation by Professor Israa Daghim from the Restoration Department of the Greco-Roman Museum in Alexandria. She reviewed the stages of restoration and rehabilitation of the Berenice painting in the museum, which is expected to open soon.
