Egyptian expatriates cast their ballots on the second and last day of senate elections, two days before polls open at home.

Egyptians living in at least 124 countries worldwide can participate in the two-day voting by sending their ballots via mail to 140 Egyptian diplomatic missions.

Lasheen Ibrahim, head of the National Elections Authority (NEA), said that it is the first time that voting is allowed via mail for Egyptians abroad; to facilitate their participation in a safe way amid an outbreak of Coronavirus pandemic.

Those allowed to vote are the ones who registered their names online with the National Elections Authority (NEA) between 25 and 31 July.

Senate elections to begin at home next Tuesday

Voting for Egyptians at home is set to be held next Tuesday and Wednesday.

A total of 787 candidates are competing for seats in the 300-seat chamber after appeals filed by rejected candidates were settled by courts last week.

Voters in the Senate Elections this year shall select a number of candidates representing the number of seats required in the inpidual system, in addition to one of the candidates' lists in their constituencies from among 4 constituencies, each representing a number of governorates.
