As the Senate elections approach, the National Elections Commission decided, for the first time, to allow voters residing abroad to participate via the express mail, taking into account the protective and precautionary measures adopted in most countries which would hinder the Egyptians abroad to attend at embassies.

Counselor Lasheen Ibrahim, head of the Commission, said that the participation of Egyptians abroad in the Senate elections is scheduled on August 9, 10, and in case of a runoff, it will be held on September 6, 7, according to the local time of each mission abroad. He noted that it is for the first time that voting is allowed by post for Egyptians abroad; to facilitate their participation in a safe way amid an outbreak of the pandemic.

He explained that every voter residing abroad must register his data at the Egyptian diplomatic mission in the country of his residence through the official website of the National Elections Authority, www.elections.eg, starting from Saturday, July 25 to Friday, July 31, 2020.

The registration number will be shown to the voter prior to obtaining the ballot card from the official website of the commission during the election days abroad (Sunday 9 and Monday 10 August) to be sent by express mail to the address of the mission until the end of Wednesday 12 August.
