Two weeks after the controversial announcement that a documentary series about "Cleopatra" would be shown, produced by Netflix, an Egyptian channel announced the start of work on producing a film about the queen herself.

The teaser of the Netflix documentary series was the latest case of controversy after the Greek-born queen appeared to be black, which specialists in Egypt considered a falsification of history.

While Netflix announced that the work will start showing next May 10, the Egyptian “AlWathaeqya” channel announced the start of preparations for producing a documentary film about Cleopatra.

The channel posted on Instagram that working sessions are currently being held with a number of specialists in history, archaeology, and anthropology, in order to subject research related to the subject of the film and its image to the utmost levels of research and scrutiny.

The channel did not mention any additional details about the work team or any of the expected dates for revealing the start of the show or the accompanying preparations.

It is reported that Queen Cleopatra VII descended from an ancient Macedonian family that ruled Egypt for nearly 300 years.
