Egyptian actress Neveen Mandour, best known for her role in the 2003 comedy classic "Elly Baly Balak", has died after a fire broke out at her apartment in Alexandria governorate on Wednesday. She was 53.

In a statement, the actress' assistant said that the blaze may be criminal in nature.

"The fire in the Alexandria apartment was caused by her husband to take her money. No one else was with her in the house," she affirmed.

The authorities are awaiting the results of the initial investigations to determine the cause of the fire and the death.

Born on November 28, 1972, the late actress developed a passion for acting at a young age, taking part in school and university theater productions.

She made her acting debut in "Elly Baly Balak," playing “Fayhaa,” the wife of Mohamed Saad's character Riyad El Manfalouty, forever engraving her into the hearts of the audience.

In 2005, Mandour made her television debut in Khaled El Nabawy's TV series "Ragaa’lek Ya Iskandareya".

She starred in her final role in the 2006 TV series "Matam Chi Toto" starring Samir Ghanem and Farouk El Fishawy.

Mandour later stepped away from the spotlight for eight years.
