Egypt's Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty welcomed U.S. President Donald Trump's decision to cancel planned military strikes against Iran during a phone call on Friday with Qatar's Prime Minister and Foreign Minister, Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani.
According to a statement released following the call, Abdelatty expressed hope that the development would create an opportunity to reach a comprehensive agreement addressing outstanding issues through dialogue and peaceful means, helping to reduce regional tensions and strengthen security and stability across the Middle East.
The discussion took place as part of ongoing consultations and coordination between Egypt and Qatar regarding the rapidly evolving regional landscape.
Diplomatic sources noted that the conversation also followed Sheikh Mohammed's recent visit to Cairo, which underscored the close ties between the two countries and their shared commitment to maintaining coordination on key regional challenges.
The two ministers exchanged views on the latest developments surrounding the Iranian crisis and assessed the implications of recent diplomatic and security shifts in the region.
Regional security concerns featured prominently in the discussions, particularly those affecting the Gulf states. Abdelatty reaffirmed Egypt's firm rejection of any threat to the sovereignty or security of Gulf nations, stressing that Gulf security remains an integral component of Egyptian and broader Arab national security.
