Egypt’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Cooperation and Egyptians Abroad, Badr Abdelatty, called on Israel to stop all military attacks on Lebanon and fully respect the country’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.
Abdelatty made the remarks during a meeting on Monday with Lebanon’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and Emigrants, Youssef Raggi, on the sidelines of the Arab League Council meeting in Jordan.
During the meeting, Abdelatty praised the distinguished historical relations between Egypt and Lebanon, stressing Cairo’s keenness to strengthen bilateral ties across all fields.
He affirmed Egypt’s full solidarity with Lebanon as it faces sensitive challenges, reiterating Cairo’s firm rejection of any violation of Lebanon’s sovereignty, unity or territorial integrity.
The Egyptian foreign minister renewed Egypt’s support for the full and non-selective implementation of UN Security Council Resolution 1701. He also called for the immediate and complete withdrawal of Israeli forces from all Lebanese territories, allowing the Lebanese army and state institutions to extend their authority across the country.
Abdelatty strongly condemned Israel’s repeated targeting of Lebanese facilities, saying such actions represent an attack on Lebanon’s sovereignty and a violation of international law and the UN Charter.
He also reaffirmed Egypt’s support for Lebanese state institutions, particularly the Lebanese army, to enable them to fulfil their responsibilities in extending state sovereignty over all Lebanese territory.
Abdelatty stressed Egypt’s backing for Lebanon’s efforts to restore security and ensure that weapons remain under the authority of legitimate state institutions.
For his part, Raggi expressed Lebanon’s appreciation for Egypt’s continued efforts to support the country. He said Lebanon looks forward to continuing to benefit from Egypt’s strong regional and international diplomatic weight in preserving Lebanon’s sovereignty, stability and state institutions.
