Egypt’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Cooperation and Egyptians Abroad, Badr Abdelatty, met Tunisia’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Migration and Tunisians Abroad, Mohamed Ali Nafti, on the sidelines of the resumed 165th regular session of the Arab League Council in Amman.
During the meeting, Abdelatty stressed the special nature of Egyptian-Tunisian relations and the deep historical and popular ties linking the two countries.
He praised the noticeable progress in bilateral relations, as well as the convening of the 18th session of the Egyptian-Tunisian Joint Higher Committee in Cairo last September. He said the outcomes of the committee reflected the keenness of both sides to advance cooperation across different fields.
Abdelatty also stressed the importance of following up on the implementation of the committee’s outcomes and building on the agreements reached during its meetings, particularly in areas that support economic, trade and investment cooperation.
The two sides underlined the importance of continuing to strengthen bilateral relations in various fields and expanding economic and trade cooperation between Egypt and Tunisia.
Abdelatty expressed Egypt’s interest in active participation in the investment forum hosted by Tunisia, saying it could help strengthen communication between the business communities of both countries and open new prospects for joint investment and cooperation.
On regional issues, the two ministers stressed the importance of continuing coordination and consultation on the various challenges facing the region, particularly the Palestinian issue and developments in Libya.
Abdelatty praised the outcomes of the meeting of foreign ministers of the trilateral neighbouring countries mechanism on Libya, which was hosted by Cairo on 21 May.
He also stressed the importance of holding the mechanism’s meetings regularly, describing it as an important framework for supporting the unity of the Libyan state, preserving its national institutions and strengthening stability.
