A number of Islamic venues in El Gamlia, and Darab El Ahmr, in Old Cairo, including several mosques that date back to the foundation of Fatimid Cairo city, have been renovated in a project to safeguard the Egypt's heritage, according to Cairo Governorate Portal.

In coordination with UNESCO, Egypt's engineers are picking through original features and seek to safeguard the cultural significance of each.

Cairo Governorate Portal has renovated El-Gamlya Archaeological Area and restored the district's heritage sites to their former glory with integrated services, including more greenery, new wooden terraces, a pedestrian sidewalk, and parking areas

The move is part of the broader project by Egypt's government. Announced in 2020, work has been under way to restore the ancient mosques and Islamic buildings across Old Cairo.

Moreover, the Supreme Council of Antiquities stated that it has recently finished preparing and equipping a new tourist path for Egyptian and foreign tourists visiting this historical area.

This path is being prepared for the first time with the aim of raising the efficiency of services provided to visitors to archaeological monuments in the Al-Darb Al-Ahmar area, in addition to linking a group of the most important Islamic archaeological buildings in Cairo to each other, the Council explained.

In addition to above mentioned, the Council revealed that the tourist path was equipped with a number of explanatory and indicative signs of the region's antiquities, and a number of clean-energy electric cars to transport visitors, especially the elderly, in addition to providing all means of making the path available for facilitated tourism.

This comes within the framework of the cooperation protocol signed between the Supreme Council of Antiquities and the Aga Khan Foundation for Cultural Services, Egypt, to promote tourism in Old Cairo, the Council noted.

It's worth mentioning that the mosques of Al-Darb Al-Ahmar have a special place in the hearts of many people who come to visit them from all over the world and on every occasion, to praise the importance of these mosques and their archaeological and historical value, in addition to recognizing their moral value because they are affiliated to notable Islamic figures.e.
