Osama Abdel Khalek, the Permanent Representative of Egypt to the UN, reaffirmed Egypt's commitment to supporting the UNICEF in a meeting with Catherine Russell, the first director of UNICEF.

During their first meeting, Abdel Khalek renewed support for UNICEF and its contributions to children's rights, peace, noble values, and comprehensive sustainable development.

The meeting dealt with updating and strengthening UNICEF's programs in Egypt and their common priority areas.

It's worth mentioning that Russell took the helm on Feb. 1 as UNICEF's new Executive Director, becoming the fourth woman to lead the organization in its 75-year history.

During the past two years, she served in the US government as Assistant to the President and Director of the White House Office of Presidential Personnel. In addition to this, Russell previously served from 2013 to 2017 as Ambassador-at-Large for Global Women’s Issues at the U.S. Department of State.
