Egypt, UNICEF Hold Talks over COP27 Forum

Egypt's Minister of Planning and Economic Development Hala El-Said met with the representative of the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) in Egypt Jeremy Hopkins on Thursday to discuss the upcoming COP27 forum, which will be held in Sharm El-Sheikh in November.

They addressed supporting Egypt in implementing activities and events for children and youths during the United Nations’ Conference of Parties on Climate Change (COP 27).

They also hold talks on enhancing cooperation in the climate change file at the national level and discussed the program’s priorities for 2022 and mechanisms for integrating children in efforts to confront the effects of climate change.

The meeting also included discussions on the ministry’s efforts to introduce Climate Change topics and informative sustainable environmental programs into the educational system.

During the meeting, El-Said drew attention to Egypt’s plan to involve youth in the climate conference by building the “Green Project” as a platform that allows them to present ideas and solutions.

Moreover, she pointed to the possibility of cooperating with UNICEF in building on the ‘Be Ambassador Initiative," which aims to build national capacities in sustainable development’ to launch new awareness campaigns on climate change, presenting appropriate topics and messages for children and youths as well.

Meanwhile, Hopkins affirmed the organization’s keenness to continue providing all aspects of support to the Egyptian state.
