Egypt Offers Condolences to Algeria over Helicopter Crash

Egypt expressed Thursday its sincere condolences to the government and people of Algeria, over the victims of a military helicopter crash, according to a statement issued by the Egyptian Foreign Ministry. 

Three Algerian military personnel were killed in the helicopter crash.

“Egypt also reaffirms its support to Algeria in this painful incident, and offers its deepest condolences and sympathies to the families of the victims and the Algerian army,” the statement read. 

The helicopter crashed on Wednesday morning in the Mediterranean, Algeria’s Ministry of National Defense announced.

“The incident occurred at 11:25 a.m. GMT+1, approximately two nautical miles (3.7 kilometers) off the coast of Bouharoun. The town is located 50 kilometers west of the capital Algiers,” the National Defense added. 

According to the Algerian military, the helicopter was an MS-25 Merlin belongs to Algeria’s National Navy. The vehicle was specialized in search and rescue missions.
